I am hoping someone on the forum could recommend and advice on a high quality durable clear-coat brand and product that I can use for a full re-spray. The repspray will be done at a professional bodyshop who have recommended certain brands such as Dupont and MaxMeyer 2K but I wanted to check if there are any specific products that are highly recommended. I am planning to keep the vehicle for 5 years hence being fussy with the clear coat.

Appreciate any reply

Nothing wrong with either DuPont or Max Meyer products.

I'd suggest your best course of action is finding a bodyshop with a good reputation - recommendations from PH or an owner's club for example - & leaving the materials selection to them.

Nothing wrong with the products already mentioned - decent quality at an average cost.

Of course there are better - the best of the best can cost hell of a lot (maybe increasing the price of an average re-spray by a factor of ten - or more!) and are really only used on the very best show cars.

But painters get used to using whichever clear coats they use ...... (in liquid form) some are thicker, some are thinner, etc, etc, - and each has a slightly different method of application.

So to achieve the optimum finish with a different lacquer might require a different gun (or gun set-up)., and/or more/less air pressure at the gun, and/or the gun might need to be at greater/less distance from the panel, and/or it may need to be put on quicker/slower etc, etc

What I'm trying to say is: If your painter already already has his 'go to' decent and recognised brand(s) that he's used to - then do you really you want to ask him to use a product that he may never have used before, that therefore he may not have tried and tested the best application method of .... until he uses it on your car?
