Anything in particular regarded as the best way?

I'm not talking about a quick spray with AG Fast Glass- good though it is.

I'm having problems with smearing that the likes of that seem to make worse. The issue is slightly improved for a short while if I just use a damp microfibre cloth to remove what grime has accumulated on the glass and wiper blades but not for long.

For example, if the car is freshly washed and the glass appears spotless you can still see where the edge of the wipers swipe on the glass.

May give the vinegar a go, 'tis cheap after all! Do you mix it 50/50 with water in a spray bottle or neat?

Found this as well- https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=95...

J4CKO there mentions using meth then AG glass polish.

white vinegar - 50/50 with water works well. In fact, it beats all the fancy glass cleaners I've tried over the years.

my late dad, one of the very old drivers club, used to swear by vinegar and an old newspaper. He used Daily record, as he was from Sturgeon country, but these days ,i'd use Sun or Daily Star. I've found that once in a while i get a build up of grease on the screen/wiper blades ( possibly from bus exhaust contamination in town centre) and a regular deep clean is worthwhile. I use an cheap washing up liquid, applied neat to the windscreen and let wiper blades spread it on. Then add lots of water and with wipers running let screen clear.
In washer bottle, I add 50/50 (summer time) screen wash and water along with a dollop of (usually Asda) cheap & nasty washing up liquid ( the cheaper stuff does not foam as much as Fairy etc), but helps to keep oil /derv contaminated surface water from smearing screen till a deep clean is needed .

I clay, then use a cutting compound by hand before sealing with gtechniq g1 clear glass. It might be worth investing in new wiper blades at the same time so you know the starting point of it being really clean.

I wash my windscreens with normal car cleaner/detergent then wipe with newspaper or paper. Comes up a dream every time, no smears at all.

Detailers often use a magic sponge and window cleaner. Cheap and easy and very effective.

Failing that, use a clay bar or 0000 wire wool with window cleaner as a lube.

Use vinegar and scrub with newspaper. I know it sounds crazy but try it and see.

Why newspaper? I never have any on have so I tried it with vinegar and mf cloths. A 50/50 spray with water than straight vinegar. As you can see here there's still an outline -

I'd best get new wipers too, the glass did seem very clean but the wipers are over a year old.

I don't know why newspaper works so well, it is an old Victorian trick for cleaning glass. Turns out they knew a thing or two.
