Fusty aircon smells

Im hoping someone can offer some advice.

When my aircon is on max cold or max heat it smells fine, however once its set to one of the middle temps in the 20s it smells rather fusty.

Ive tried some of the aircon cleaning products and they tend to mask the smell for a short while. Ive sprayed the foam into the aircon inlet in the engine bay and it didnt really help a whole lot when it tends to be the middle temps only affected. Ive also changed the charcoal filter quite often and it hasnt helped either.

If it helps the car is a Mercedes CLS and the aircon is on all the time.

Sounds like it needs to be sprayed with a bio agent to get rid of any growth you may have on the condenser coils.

I’ve had good results running it at max heat all vents open for a minimum of 30 minutes.

This time of year is good as you can drive with windows open and not boil yourself.
