Throw a sheet over it and put it in the garage.

Polish and wax will do nothing to protect it from stone chips (it will look nice and shiney though).

Pricey, but Paint Protection Film is about the best thing to minimise the risk

It'll vary on the paint used, if it was baked after painting, the number of layers and such as to how long it'll take to harden.

Your best bet for protection will be paint protection film and/or ceramic coating.
I'm having my car resprayed soon, it'll be baked and then allowed to gas out for a few weeks - then I'll apply PPF to the bonnet and bumper and ceramic coat the rest of the car smile
