I'm looking at buying a 2012 BMW 7 series that has a few paintwork issues. It really needs the bonnet painting and being a dark grey car and a veteran of many trips to the supermarket car wash the whole body could do with being mopped and polished to remove some fine scratches and swirls. What would be a fair price to pay a body shop to carry out the work?
Cheers

I would take your car to three or four bodyshops & get a feel for them the cheapest isn't always the best, they'll need to see the car because you really can't get an idea of condition until you view a car.

Thanks, I don't own the car (yet) I'd like to get some idea of the cost to paint the bonnet etc to help with negotiating a price for it.

Telling us exactly why the bonnet needs repainting would be a good start, has someone jumped on it? Poured paint stripper or set fire to it or what?

Paint a bonnet, mop etc. Budget around £500 + VAT for a decent job.

Thanks for the replies. The bonnet has some deep scratches all over it that won't polish out, there are no dents.

It's been ages since I've had a car needing a trip to the body shop, I figured £600 ought to be the right price but just wanted a sanity check!

Depending on the bonnet £600-800 would be a fair guess is the car metallic? If so also expect for the bodyshop to blend into the wings.

Are they down to the metal?
You be surprised what scratches will flat and polish out if it’s something you don’t do...

I'd recommend you speak to a reputable "detailer" & ask them for their advice - as above, they can wet sand cars in many instances if the scratch isn't through the paint as part of a full detail of the car & the cost could be less than just a decent bonnet/front end repaint. Around London there are apparently a number of well respected detailers to speak with/consult.
