I hate em. Not keen on shiny dashboard tops either. Took my car to the car wash yesterday, had the inside and outside cleaned. Asked them not to shiny the dashboard top. Didn't ask them not to shiny the tyres, as I have been there before and never have my tyres shined. I used to specically ask them not to, but they got used to it so didn't have to keep reminding them. Car now has shiny tyres which look fake. Meh.

I wouldn't worry, they use the sttest quality stuff ever so they'll be back to dull in no time

I like it. The tyres, not the dash.

Did it once before a trackday without thinking, and the gel must have gotten too hot and sprayed over the wings and wheels. Looked a bit messy.

I like it, in fact, I hate the grey of a tyre as it ages, makes the whole car look dirty even if you have spent hours polishing it...

Cannot think of one downside to making your tyres shinier and black, literally thought every PH'er would like it

A light bit of good quality stuff on the wall looks decent. The stuff these places use will be crap, and looks tacky. I don't know anyone who likes a shiny dashboard....

Apart from it being flung off all over your wing and arches and dries off in black greasy spots.

I definitely prefer shiny tyres to dull grey untreated tyres. Satin finish looks much better though.

Absolutely agree. Looks fake like a trout pout or tattooed eyebrows. PS I don't spend minutes polishing my car let alone hours, so may not be the typical PH demographic smile

It doesn't work for me as it obviously looks fake - you can see the change in colour on the surface of the tyres where they hit the road, so it just looks odd to my eyes.

I'll run a sponge over the tyres when washing the wheels but that's about it.

Each to their own though!

Each to their own, but I don't think it looks fake. It just makes them look new, I guess the same as giving your car a proper clean and polish.

If your idea of a wash is a quick once over with a bucket and sponge, with the leftover water used as a final rinse, then I wouldn't bother using tyre shine. But if you spend a few hours snow foaming, 2 buckets, fallout removal, polishing, waxing etc etc then tyre shine finishes it off. Otherwise it seems a bit pointless to go to all that effort but leave the tyres looking dull and faded when the rest of the car shines.

You cant not wash a car then leave dull tyres, needs to be done! I dont wash my car alot (months go by), but when I do, i do it properly and it includes some tyre shine.

I hate it, mainly as it makes my exit of the car wash a 100m sideways slide!

I don’t like black tyres. It is just so wrong. As for washing the tyres … what!

I’m not keen on overly glossy tyres but I will always dress the tyres after a good wash. Carpro Perl is my go-to. Apply neat, leave for a few minutes and then rub off any excess. Fantastic satin finish, zero sling and lasts quite a while.

I don't mind the look of shiny tyres on specific cars. I think there is a time and place for them.

I think you need it with black alloys for example?

I'm not a fan of glossy tyre dressings that make you look like you've crashed out of the local Romanian car wash, however a satin finish always finishes a clean car off nicely.
