Dirty plastic trim

The trim on my xc70 appears dirty.

I’ve tried washing it, and this is the result immediately after a hand car wash tried.

Any suggestions?

I’ve used a blowtorch on trim before, works a treat. Just brush the trim with heat from a distance

Polytrol 100ml sample pot might be worth a try for a few pounds.

Thanks all. Ordered some restorer although it seems more like ingrained dirt than old trim. It was black last year!

I use Autoglym Bumper & Trim Gel on faded plastics.

Does look like ingrained dirt tbh. Give it a good dose of tfr / scrub with a stiff brush first before putting any trim restorer on.

Scrub it with a nail brush with something detergenty, rinse, dry, then clean it with methylated spirits, then use one of the better trim restorers, like

Melamine sponge, also known as a 'magic sponge' + some multi purpose cleaner from the kitchen cupboard - will have that cleaned up in no time.

If the above only fixes the issue temporarily like adding a fake gloss that washes off then I suggest looking on YouTube at guides to using a heat gun to bring the plastic back to colour.FAR more safer than a blowtorch! Then use a renovator like G4 or Meguiars to finish off and add some protection from UV.

Be sure it's clean before applying any coatings or heat as you may end up locking the dirt in.
