Some prick has pranged our E60 and it looks like a new lid is required. Is it a case just unbolting and reconnecting a new one and that the BMW central locking adapts, or is it more complicated?

Your going to have to get the boot lid painted so you might as well get the body shop to fit it like most things its a pice of piss when you know how lol

I was thinking more in terms of physical and central locking?

Is it a case unplugging something and reconnecting to the other boot and then swapping the locks over? Or is it more complicated?

As Eddie said, if the bootlid is damaged, it'll very probably have a damaged back panel & bumper (plastic bumpers often spring back, so it might not look damaged), may also have moved the bootfloor. What hit you?

That's the strange thing.

Not a mark any where else, not even a slight scruff or scratch! There is a verticle dent on the top lip, unfortunately I've been told my BMW and another independent place that it needs a new boot as you can't access that section from the otherside. The boot has not deformed at all apart from that dent!

I suspect it was a lorry or something raised. We live off a main road and the shops tend to park vans and lorrys on the side roads, specifically one largish shop but the owner has denied any knowledge but was acting "shifty" furious

If the paint work is not marked might be worth phoning a local Paintless dent removal man gonna be loads cheaper than a body shop

Hi, I know this is an old thread but very much looking for the answer to the OP original question: can I just swap the locks on the boot from old dented to new bumper and expect the boot to open and lock with the central locking system without needing to recode locks

Yes. As long as nothing else is bent...
