Matte treatment for dash?

One of my cars has a slightly shiny dashboard top which, under certain sun conditions, reflects off the windscreen. Not ideal. I think... hope... the shininess is due to age rather than that wet-look silicone spray. The dashboard is soft touch plastic.

A quick Google shows there are a few products I could use to restore a matte finish to interior plastics. Anyone found any that work particularly well or particularly badly?

If it does turn out to be aged remnants of silicone spray, I've got APC, washing up liquid and IPA... what would you start with?

Mix up some apc according to the manufacturers instructions and try that first.
Most can be used safely on interiors but just check.

Hmm... you appear to have this backwards. I just checked a few online dictionaries and matte with an e appears to be the correct UK spelling, with matt being the American.

Good shout - if it is silicone then it may look fine after APC.

If it doesn't tone down with a good APC clean then flocking it may be an option.

If it turns out not to be silicone spray or similar, and the plastic is just quite shiny, a fabric mat on the dash may be what you need.
