Importing a pre '89 car?

Just read on another less-petrolhead forum that you can import a pre-89 car into Oz without first needing to own it for 12 months in the UK.

I cant find anything on this elsewhere online so was wondering if you lot had heard this?

Just imported a Tvr 1988 myself from uk. You need to contact DOTARS and Steve White at cargo online. Good luck

I'm in the final stages of importing my (2005) car now and it's been painless so far.

Bonus comes through shortly so will be looking to do a pre-89 car as well. Currently considering an Audi Quatrro UR or Ferrari 308

Any other ideas for pre 89 cars?

I always fantasised about these in my youth. Should have remained a fantasy, I drove one as an instructor at a driving school at Wanneroo... horrible thing, massive turbo lag, horrible gearbox, really nasty.
