I'm not sure the old Princess was ever a "bad" looking car, it's more that it was designed by st engineers, and made by st assemblers from st materials, none of whom GAS in the slightest......

I tend to agree - it was a good-looking, up to date design at the time and it's stood the test of time. It's just a shame that, like all BL products of that period, it was starved of investment for innovation and even product development and was slung together by work-shy communists who oughtn't have been trusted to put a B&Q shed uo

Not just you - I have an admiration for Leyland cars of this period. I even bid on a 1750 Allegro last year...

Where's BV when you need him? smile

Remove the twin pot front brake callipers, then weigh in what's left.

Gosh, what a clean example.

I once saw a mock up in a magazine where they lowered and tubbed one of those out and fitted a much larger engine, quad exhausts etc. It got me wondering.....

Another here.

Always liked the rarer Wolseley version with the grille badge that lit up when I was a kid.

Exactly. I had two as company cars: 1976 2200HL Auto in white, and a 1980 2200HLS Auto in rightly chosen turd brown. When they were running properly (rare) they were very nice indeed, and they always drew compliments for their appearance. The brown one never had a day without a fault though.

My dad had two of them, a green one then a bronze one

They followed two Cortinas, I drove the bronze one as a youngster and it was better than my minor .. although that wouldn’t be hard

My father was issued one as his staff car in the mid seventies (I think it was the Wolesley version with the light up logo on the grille). It didn’t stay around that long, possibly suggesting that it’s reliability wasn’t all that, but I do remember Pa saying that it was more comfortable to be driven in than the Ford Granada and much roomier than the Rover 2000/Triumph 2000s that the MOD seemed to use at the time.
