Looking for my old MK1 Golf GTI - MGO249Y - Mars red
Discussion
I am desperately looking for my old 1983 Mk1 Golf GTI and would love to be put in touch with the current owner. I sold it in 2007 and I’ve traced it to its last owner as of two years ago. It was modified to a very high standard and fitted with a 1.8T, Cobra bucket seats, digi dash and BBS RM with black centres. I’ve been told it was sold to a seventy year old chap. If anyone can put me in touch with the current owner it would be very much appreciated.

Hello. Thanks very much for your reply. I’ve posted on Mk1 GTI owners club a couple of months ago but had no response.
I should also be mentioned the car is currently taxed and mot’d when I’ve checked online. Any other suggestions for finding the car I should never have sold to fund a wedding 🤪 will be greatly appreciated.

There's a Mk1 Audi TT breaker in Alsager, near Crewe, who have done a lot of 1.8T into Golf conversions (I believe the TT breaking business spun out of their buying up old TTs to source engines), I wonder whether they might have done the conversion and if so, might put you in touch.

Hello - not quite the reply you were looking for but I can tell you that my father was the first owner of this vehicle from new. My father died a couple of years back (he was 92 so not a bad innings..) and I happened today to be looking through some old slides of his - this deck was from 1983 and labelled "Alpbach with car" - and there are a couple of shots from the side but one that clearly shows it with GB sticker in the queue for the ferry (or hovercraft). I googled the registration number and the rest, as they say, is history!
I remember the car very well of course!
I can probably find out a bit more about the early history of the vehicle, supplying dealer etc, if you get this message and are interested. I won't be able to help with finding out where it is these days
All good wishes, Mike
