I'm looking at a 1950s Jaguar Special that was built in the '70s. The donor vehicle, donated the mechanical parts but not the chassis as that was custom built

The owner used it on the donors registration number and it has been used and taxed on that basis for the last 50 years

I know the DVSA has been clamping down on this in recent years but is it a concern on a Special built 50 years ago ?

The V5 states
Make: Jaguar
Model: 3.8

So it's quite vague which makes me think it's ok unlike if it stated a specific Jaguar model but it's unclear if the DVLA were ever told and it's been further modified throughout it's life so it no longer has much, if any, of the donor left

If it was built before 1988, which you seem to indicate, and as long as it has not been further modified in any major way since 1988, then there should be no problem with the V5 as is.

Yes it was a 70s build

It's later had an upgraded engine, gearbox and rear axle, whether that was at once or three different times or exactly when, is impossible to say

Depending on what you mean by upgraded, changes of engine, gearbox and back axle from its 70's build might be an issue now, if all done after 1988.

There's no way of knowing when they were upgraded (changed) they are all pre 80s parts

It's being sold from a deceased estate

I suppose if I can't prove it, the DVSA can't either biggrin

Unfortunately, should the DVSA question it, it will be up to you to prove what it is, not for them to prove what isn't . . .

Can you post a photo, please?

A friend built a Jaguar special based on (I think) a mk8 Jaguar, 3.8 litre which we replaced with a 4.2l engine in 1989(?).

It was red, had a SS100 style radiator and used a (glassfibre) Moonraker Bugatti rear end
