Stainless Steel Wire Wheels

I'm thinking of fitting a set of these on my series 1 e-type.

Does anyone have any long term experience of using them i.e. how do they stand up to a couple of years use ?

The alternative is chrome, but I've yet to see a set that doesn't rust around the spoke holes when regularly used in wet weather.

AFIK the early wires with stainless spokes were a heap of poo since the spokes, being much stiffer than ordinary steel broke quite easily. However, thaqt seems to have been cured and they last OK I've heard. My old chrome wheels are now 22 years old and showing their age, but still are usable even if rusty. However, why chrome and not painted? Much cheaper and to me more in keeping - that's my next purchase for mine.

The stainless items are a bit more yellowy when compared to chrome which just seem to look brighter

I'd vote for painted wires too. better period feel.

Dayton - aka the British Wire Wheel Company - have been making stainless steel wire wheels for years, mainly used on lowrider cars out in the States, but they also make wheels for 'traditional' cars.

Agreed. Chrome/stainless wires seem just a bit too 'bling' to me.
