Becker Mexico 7948
Discussion
Restoration of my Sprint Speciale is now at the put-it-back-together stage (I'll try to post some photos tonight). I want to fit a Becker Mexico 7948, but they seem to be like rocking horse droppings. Does anybody know where I can get one? I would prefer to visit an actual retail outlet with living, breathing people given some unfortunate experiences with internet sellers in the past.
Good luck with finding one. I have one in my old merc and they are very good bits of kit. Look very understated yet do everything.
I struggled with a UK Becker dealer who didn't seem to get any support from Becker with regard to technical and sales issues. The multichanger died after a couple of years so I swooped to iPod connection which is much easier. Fortunately the handbook is a very comprehensive piece of data so that should help with most issues you may have...
Would certainly recommend though!!

Electronics City in Essex appear to have them...

When I checked the site, the price was in sterling. However, a quick look on Google Street view shows only houses and no commerce at all, but their address is the big house. Just put Parkside, IG1 1SX into Google earth and have a look. What I also don't like either is the prominent advert for Western Union.

I looked on Google france and one person is asking £2,500 second hand! I looked at them myself a couple of years back but they didn't make them for positive earth. Bugger.
Saw just what you needed at Essen a week or so ago but at a ridiculous 3500 Euros. Have you tried the British car radio specialists - Lester Moon in Bristol and Alan Marchant in Sale bear Manchester. VVTHi, I have seen the Becker retro 7948 posts. (The Rolls Royce of car radios)
I bought 2 used units last year for 3k and 3.2k, considering they Retail at £1500 back in the day is irrelevant. As I also paid through the nose for them, But I never lost when I sold one for 3500. It is the best car radio ever made.
Beware of any internet sites advertising them for 950 of similar, They do not have stock and no dealer will, I got scammed by one of these sites and luckily I paid by credit card, Only it took over 6 months to be refund!!!
The retro Beckers are worth every penny and you will never loose on them. They are better than cash in the Bank and you can use it.
They are not like an ordinary car stereo, They weight nearly 2 kilos and are quality. They are the best boys toy ever and no car is complete without it.
Currently a sealed retro on Ebay.co.uk for sale!!! That is a real collectors piece.
The way I look at is, Whats 3k-4k on a car stereo when we spend ££££££'s on our classic cars.
If you can afford the best you have the best, I know a chap who has 6 of them fitted in every classic car he has ranging from a Capri to a Rolls and he will never part with them.
I will never sell my last retro and it with me for life. This is why they are worth there weight in gold, ask any owner.
So don't skimp and put you hand in your pocket, you will not regret it and remember we only live once.
Would you wipe your ass with newspaper if you could wipe it with tissue paper?
Its ok forthe wife to wear 5k on her finger??
Becker Retro is just in a different league to other head units and only men with balls have them aswell as the a rich
Hope This Helps

I just want to say that I spoke today with Rory at Tadpole Radios and he was extremely helpful. I have put in an order for a period Radiomobile unit converted to take an iPod connection. Despite the fact that Rory and his partner, Adrian, are very busy with a waiting list, Rory took the time to answer my inane questions and went out of his way to volunteer to help me with the right choice of speakers, aerial, etc.
Obviously, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, but initial impressions of Tadpole are very positive. Great personal service from a guy who clearly knows his onions.
