Any other Elan fans on here ?
The auctioneer’s description “ The Darling of the High Street “ certainly sums up the 1960s Elan.
This BRM converted S4 drophead, has been with the same owner since 1972 !
The brainchild of the Late Mike Spence, only a handful were ever converted, but this one’s provenance is in doubt. It was first registered in November 1969, so just how could it have visited Tony Rudds house in 1968 ??.

I like it, I don't think I've heard of one previously.

There used to be a FHC version on display at the Donington Collection. It had BRM lettering under the Lotus bonnet badge. I had a photo of it ca. 2011, but it got lost during the Great Photobucket Purge for non subscribers.

The perfect livery on the perfect sports car . Here's a picture of Mike Spence at his day job . taken from my Automobile Year 1967

Richard Jenkins' book - Mike Spence - Out of the Shadows - describes the genesis of the car . Sadly , things stopped when he as killed at Indy a month to the day after Jim Clark's death .
