Full Withnail - driving a heap.

I just love driving old cars that look like they are falling apart.

That's what 8yr old cars looked like back then; end of life heaps. Now an 8yr old car is just a car, even if uncared for it probably looks fine and can do another 4-6 years before the shredder beckons through spares not being available or economically viable and it can have a 2nd life as a fridge.

Absolutely. My father bought a new Mini de-luxe in 1965. Within 5 years it had a Gold Seal recon engine and shortly after a new rear subframe. Barely made it to ten years. This from family motoring and care. Huntsman said:
I've had 3 Vivas, 1 Firenza, 4 P6's, 2 MGA, 1 MGB, 5 Morris Minors, 1 sprite, 2 Spitfires, 1 Vitesse, 3 Landrovers, 1 e type, 1 Healey 100, 4 XJ6's.
Perhaps I need help.
Suggest you start looking at elderly BMW's, you know, the one's built with the indicator switch close to the steery wheel, as apposed to being in the boot!Perhaps I need help.
