My P5B has Lucas 54522163 sealed beam fog lights and they have never worked in my ownership. The sealed beam units - Lucas 54522163 - are virtually unobtainable and have a finite life so future replacements would be harder to source.

Has anyone successfully (and easily) converted them to replaceable bulbs? And if so, which bulbs (are LEDs an option) would be suggested? Are there any alterations to the wiring that would be needed?

I stumbled across a Coupe for sale (I wasn’t looking, honest). It’s been modified to have the fogs replaced with spots, presumably for similar reasons. A quick google indicates it is a relatively common conversion. I know that it spoils the originality but it might be worth considering.

The Coupe had a 3.9 conversion and was bright red, so I wouldn’t pursue it…not that I was looking.

You’d think there would be an aftermarket option given the number of cars that used the same lamp.

Not really on the same subject since my headlights were not sealed beam, but have you thought of talking to some of the LED specialists. They supplied all the conversion bulbs for my e-type and may have some ideas for you. Maybe they know of the way to convert similar spots and fogs.

That's my next port of call.

I have managed to locate one New Old Stock fog light, only £300!

Also used by Jaguar for the 3.4 and 3.8 perhaps by other makers too, Vanden Plas, Wolseley perhaps?

I found a pair in the USA here: https://jollyrogersmotors.com/foglamp-pair-jaguar-...

Just to update - Wadham's have alternatives back in stock so a pair ordered today. Just over £100 delivered for the pair. Hopefully they will work seamlessly.

Just to update, as so many threads never have a satisfactory conclusion.

Wiring was "interesting" to say the least. All tidied up and now working with the replacement lamps.

Thanks for updating: car looks good, a very 'moody' photo. Wing mirrors and door mirrors?

I find the wing mirrors on my Riley are very good width indicators on narrow country lanes especially when passing on-coming traffic.
