I posted this one up a while back, but it’s up for sale again ( in the States ) where it’s been since the early 70s. It was probably shipped across the pond by a U.S. serviceman. Its light metalic blue body with red trim must have been a lovely if scarce colour combo.

Can you just imagine how cool it would have been to be looking at this view back in 1962…..

This DB4 is just up the road from where I live. How much would it cost to get that DB4 up to that condition.?

About £300k+.

That episode of Bangers and Cash that had the barn find DB6, which was in similar condition to that DB4, and sold for just over £100k IIRC, had the guy from Aston Workshop state about £250k to nut and bolt the DB6, and that was pre-Covid, so easily £300-350k for resto costs now I would have thought....plus cost to buy it as is.

In 2022 I was introduced to this car in a customer's garage at his house - just sitting there - he'd had it since 1987.

He was unsure what he was going to do with it.

Amazing and exciting finds.

I scratch my head why barn find wrecks fetch so much, assuming because of their low ownership and originality, only for just about every nut and bolt to be replaced during the restoration.

I think the aim for these type of resto's is to refurbish and re-sue as much of the original components as possible, rather than just replace everything, which is why they are sought after, as they are usually complete cars.

In 1991 I sold a part restored DB4, and a garage, shed and attic full of bits I'd taken off - a disassembled DB Aston consumes a lot of space - for £10,000.

The chap who bought it wanted it to go with his DB5. He has subsequently added a DB2, DB3S, DB6 and DBS V8 to his collection. He said he would undo the work I had done and the work I had paid to be done on the DB4.

It is still unrestored.

Advert says it’s a Series 111 that was registered in 1961, but the Series 2 was a 1962 model ?

What a waste to just have it sat there all this time. Let alone the amount of money that is sitting there. Did he ever use it ?

No. He bought it in that condition - exactly as you see in the pics.

The point I forgot to make was that he is a wealthy guy and presumably the cost of restoring it is prohibitive. It's a matching numbers car and the first owner was a 1950s racing driver. It would be worth a lot restored but pots of money to get right.

According to my sources Series 2 production was from February 1960 to April 1961, Series 3 from April to September '61.

Yep, my favourite as well, and a DB4GT is for me still, the ultimate Aston (but with an ultimate price tag now!)
