Anyone remember Hills, Leytonstone High Rd?

Born in Leytonstone and am back living here.
Walked past Hills all the time and remember the stock of the classic car showroom.
Was a little too young back in the eighties to afford and insure some of their stock, but remember falling in love with a rather lovely 246 Dino which was up for sale for a little more than I paid for my new MG Metro.
A lovely gunmetal MkII Jag, MkI Lotus Cortina, Mk1 RS2000 and a nice Guards Red 944 which I had a sit in, are also nice memories of Hills.

Yes, I do, the prices of their stock were absolutely laughable, they always had a E Type in that Leytonstone showroom.
The son of the founder had a very early E Type series 1 roadster, Red from memory. A good friend called Darren, worked there as a mechanic and used to Mot it.
Sadly, Hills doesn’t bring back good memories for me. When I was 17, I was pals with a great guy called Allan, a biker, who worked the fuel pumps at the huge Hills garage site in Woodford Green in the evenings. Another older biker pal also worked there. I would go up in the eves for 10pm and then the older pal and I would go to the huge biker meeting at Whips Cross. One night we had just left Hills, had got about 300 yards down the road & as we got to Woodford Police station, the left lane was shut with ambulance and Police everywhere. It was dark, but I could just make out the shape of a cars front end, sticking out from a large bush. A couple of days later, we heard that Allan had been killed in a car crash. A few days later the mechanic I was apprenticed to, told me that his g / fs parents Lancia HPE had been stolen and was the car that had been in the accident. It had hit a tree, which had ripped the Lancia front end off. We never heard any more about it.
Darren was sadly killed in a motorcycle RTA about 18 years ago.

I bought a second hand Kawasaki S1C 250 from Enfield Kawasaki Centre. Rather than a drum brake on the front it had a KH250 forks and disc brake. I hadn’t had it long and the police wanted to check it over because apparently it had been written off and they use to check any vehicle that had been put back on the road after a write off. Obviously the front end had been stoved in hence the KH250 front end which I only joined the dots up when the police pay me that visit. My initial thought was that someone had uprated to a disc brake. Anyway that bike originated from Epping.

Guessing your S1C was a blue one ? Surprised that plod wanted to inspect it, as I was buying damaged bikes from a lovely guy called Fred, who had a barn on Sewardstone road, but never had any agg re inspecting them.
Sadly, I have another co incidence for you re an S1C.
I knew another biker who lived in Woodford Green, very close to Hills. He had an S1C. He went to college in east London with another mutual biker pal. One afternoon, he pulled out of the college car park, but had forgotten that he had left his side stand down. He only got a short distance, when the stand dug into the road, he was thrown off and straight into a post box, my other pal witnessed the whole thing, he tried to shout out re the stand, but the rider didn’t hear him…..
