On the subject of Invacars
Discussion
I do not remember Derry ever using a blue Invacar, he much preferred his Bert designed original three wheeler with special steering and the engine mounted on the side of the vehicle. Bert eventually built him a modified Motocross engine tuned to Bickers spec: and with a racing expansion chamber exhaust. Derry drove this beast flat out all the time and terrified the locals much to his amusement. Derry Preston Cobb was a truly remarkable man considering his disabilities born cheerfully throughout his life.

Back in the 70s in Southport, I saw one of those pale blue plastic bodied ones alongside a 3 litre Capri at some traffic lights. On the green, it shot away from the Ford.
I mentioned this in the office the following Monday and one of the ladies said it was well known locally; it had a ruddy great Norton engine fitted replacing the asthmatic little 2 stroke.

My mother was “issued” an Invacar after an accident left her partially paralysed. I have fond memories of crouching down beside her it in as a kid to go to the local shops (it was illegal to carry passengers in them IIRC). She absolutely loved hers, but was eventually forced to part with it when they withdrew them and she had a Daf 33 converted for her needs.
