Fascinating, absolutely marvellous. Only the one car to be seen, a Schroder.

Just seen it myself, brilliant TV. Although anything involving Dan Cruikshank is normally fascinating.

Amazing to see 100+ year old film in such good playback condition and for the decendants to see their Great/Grandfathers on film. Amazing.

Looking forward to next weeks program.

Lovely stuff.

I have to say the sight of seeing people strolling comfortably and without care along car free city streets was quite nice to see. Although there did seem to be an awful lot of horsey doings about.

Sounds German so it was probably a member of the royal family.

Isn't it fantastic?

Only saw the news report on Thursday night and one or two local reports since but recorded the prog for digestation tomorrow.

Mind you, did you notice the Edwardian chav, queuing (I think) at the factory gate who, on seeing the camera, flicked an aggressive vee?

Excellent television.

I live inbetween Blackburn and Preston, and work in Wigan. My great grandfather was a mill owner, so it was a really fascinating program with more than a little personal relevance.

It is amazing how much of the architecture remains, given the complete collapse of of the cotton industry.

There are loads of mills still around.

What has completely disappeared is evidence of the coal mining industry. There are a few grassy slag heaps, but all of the pit heads, with the spinning spoked wheels, have disappeared.

Only twenty years ago, Wigan and Leigh was littered with working pits, but they've all disappeared.

Cheers

Very interesting prog', whilst horse drawn carts and carrieges were at the height of use it was said that London would grind (or is that slither) to a halt owing to the huge volume of dung on the streets

Looking forward to seeing a few early cars on these films too.

What a fantastic find! The way it was put together was also excellent. The BBC have a talent for producing large amounts of crapulent drivel and then all of their programme planning, editing and quality control measures fail and a gem like this emerges.
Reality TV as it should be
