Come on, then.

Fess up.

1) What bank shares do you currently own?
2) What price did you buy them at?
3) How much did you invest?
4) What price are they now?

A better question is how do I as a person who has never bought or owned shares before go about buying shares in a bank?

Have a look at this link. They are very focussed towards dealing with private individuals and won't treat you as an idiot just because you don't know all the jargon or have £millions to invest,

Thanks a lot for that Oz Osmond, is it possible to go into a main branch of one of these banks and buy shares from their sharedealing services?

I believe you can buy the remaining 30% of RBS for the price of a slightly soiled Vauxhall Vectra.

It is somewhat difficult to quantify the value of worthless things though.

At 13p RBS shares must be a very good bet. They will get bailed out and they have just jumped the 'outing bad debt' hurdle. The only way is up!

I think that's a terrible question. A better question is which bank dare I save my savings in? Or what horse should I bet on?

The battle cry of the private investor.

The real one should more likely be "Buy high, sell low".

I bought shares in my employer through their share scheme. They are now worth 20% of what I bought them for (on guestimate average).

It hurts.

They used to be a client of mine, I have not seen this service before but they are a very large well established organisation and I doubt very much they would be out to screw punters over.

They have mainly been in the pensions markets for the last 20 years, they know their stuff.

They may of 'outed' the bad debt, but that doesn't mean it has gone away...

It's extremely unlikely anyone will retail you their shares over the counter. I should give Hargreaves Lansdown a ring and chat to them if I were you. They're very human and will talk about the whole process with you. These days you don't even need to fool around with share certificates (unless you really want to) as the shares are held electronically in your name. You may even find you can do the transaction with a debit card.

Note: You will need to prove your identity at some point using a bank statement, driving licence etc. Dead easy.
