Try www.roughguides.com I can't offer any personal tips, but between Roughguides and Lonely Planet you can normally find out how to get around, and what bits of places are worth seeing. Enjoy - I am jealous as I'd love to go there

Taxi costs bugger all.

What to do when in Marrakesh, avoid pick pockets. When buying knock the price down 30000%

I have been over there a few times for work. :S

Didn't spent much time in Mkesh when we visited a couple of times this year. However, care to hire a car and the High Atlas is on your door step.

You can do a couple of loops of the High Atlas with Mkesh as your start and and end point. Personally, first time out, I would do our first lap which means heading south and head straight for Tiz'n'Test pass. There is a guest house in Ijoukak called Chez Majoub which is well worth a stay. You will have the best night of your life in a primitive. Mail me if you want more details.

After a night there, head up Tiz'n'test the following day. This is a fantastic road. At the top you will see over the plains to the Anti Atlas. Go down the other side and stop at the second cafe (white building with no windows and looks half built - because it is half built). There is a fabulous young guy there called Abraham who will keep you entertained for hours given half a chance.

Then head down to the plain, take the first left (eg don't head for Agadir). You can then head for Ait'Ben'Addou for the night which has loads of hotels. Following day, head over Tiz'n'ticha pass, and stop at Tadirt on the other side for lunch.

After that, follow for Mkesh and job done. Essentially, its 2 nights out and about, and the best journey you'll make this decade.

Have fun.

You will need to haggle hard for a Taxi at the airport. In Mkech it is about 1:10 for actual price:first price ratio. It varies per town. You will get scammed. Dont take anyone up on the offer of being your guide or shopping helper, they will take you round till your completely lost and to some of their mates shops where they will charge you over the odds.

Medina El Fna is the main centre in Marrakech, worth seeing. Went for a couple of days, for me that was plenty. Souks are ok, get a map of it as there are different areas for different types of product. Most shops sell the same stuff so worth shopping around and haggling hard. Also take everthing you hear from the traders with a bucket of salt, mostly rubbish that you can buy in TK maxx for half as much, but there are some good things if you know what your looking for.

I got rugged in Morocco.

Had a look at some rugs, agreed to buy one. Was offered it for £400. Came back at £100. Accepted immediately with another one thrown in free. Mate was a little more savvy, so he offered £50, which they accepted straight away with another one thrown in.

Always go very low.

Top country though.

From my brothers tales and to re-iterate, beware of pick pockets and the street urchins (one and the same). My brother didn't even make it out of the airport before his watch had gone hehe Fortunately he had been warned by a previous visitor and bought some cheapies to wear over there.

Don't give anything to any of the street urchins no matter how desperate they look - if you do you will not be left alone for a second and will have a load of them scrabbling over you - seemingly to beg for some of what their mate got but in reality to rob you blind while they beg.
