Questions about flying
Discussion
Couple of things that I've been meaning to ask for a little while, and I'm sure somebody on here will have an answer.
Whilst flying with Qantas to Oz a few years back we hit some very rough stuff over India, and for some reason the pilots voice came over the PA system, and I'm sure he said something like 'Maydeck', does this actually mean anything?
Also, why do cabin crew always sit on their hands during take off?

Not sure about the first bit, the second bit is just force of habit I think, not for any reason in particular.Whilst flying with Qantas to Oz a few years back we hit some very rough stuff over India, and for some reason the pilots voice came over the PA system, and I'm sure he said something like 'Maydeck', does this actually mean anything?

It was 'mayday' and you were very lucky
Nice!
How serious does the situation have to be before the call of mayday is used?
Official def is "grave and imminent threat requiring immediate assistance"
