Software for editing video camera recordings?
Discussion
If it's a DV camcorder and you have a firewire port on your PC, I recommend using Windows Movie Maker. It's free, and a top-notch way to edit movies.
I'd also recommend the same for any other digital media, however you are going to struggle with an older analogue camcorder as you'll need some sort of capture card and the quality won't be particularly good.

If it's on DVD you'll need something like DVD decrypter to rip it into MPEG4 files to edit. If you want to edit in Windows movie maker (which is okay and free, but not very powerful), you'll need to convert mpeg files to .wmv's and the .au (audio) files to .wmf. This stage is extra hastle, but the only way to get into WMM. You can download the Windows Media Encoder from Microsofts site that will do this conversion for you.
As it's in dvd probably easier to use another tool tbh.
