Strict Islamic Code Imposed by Chechen Leader
Discussion
This is an example of how extreme Islamic law can become. I understand this is not the norm (I hope), but the danger of it sliding to this is bad. :

Just as a matter of interest, was it this way with christians too at some point in the past? Probably not amongst the anglo-saxons but what about the southerners?
Christians? Probably in the Middle ages. The South here? No. Apparently folks have a warped idea of even "extreme chritianity" here in my region. There are simply no comparisons on a similar scale to what is going on in Chechneya. Our religions here do not supercede our laws....ever.Edited by Jimbeaux on Tuesday 3rd March 16:04

Good point. This guy is the moderate of the choices available.

Russia is a basketcase, it has always been a place where life is very, very cheap. It is a part of their way of life.
So in this a
hole end of its former empire, they want to dabble with Sharia law, fine, they have self-determined through a democratic process that they want it.
So what's the problem?
It's not Christianity?
Is that all?
Russia has not stomach for another fight over Chechnya, they don't have the money or means for one. Russia will use any form of short-term deal as long as it furthers their battle against who they deem to be their biggest enemy.
So the head-up here is that whilst it flies in the face of their State system, Russia has bigger fish to fry. Russia always plays the long game, it could swat this guy with a nice dose of Polonium whenever it wanted to.
And you should be wondering who is Russia's biggest 'fish' it would like to fry rather than worrying about an insignificant province

Now, either I missed some relevant information or I am confused. Both of which are a distinct possibility.
Have you seen page 2? Kadyran is supported by Russia as he has reined in the seperatists. It looks like he is trying to increase his control by pushing Sharia law so he dilutes the support the fundamentalist seperatists have. Presumably as part of this he is trying to claim these women deserved to die at the hands of their families for being loose, which is contradicted by both the Russian prosecution service and the fact that two of them have been buried in family plots.

Indeed. But once again, it's not about religion per se but power. This guy is the moderate of the choices available.
