After finding a lost camera today, I found myself saying a rather pointless commonly-used phrase:
"It's always in the last place that you look".

Now obviously that is rather pointless, because what is the purpose of continuing to look, once you've found it....scratchchin

Anyway, it got me thinking, what other meaningless or pointless phrases are unwittingly used in everyday life?
I haven't managed to think of any further, so thought I'd open it up to the daytime PHers biggrin

I like to dispel common sayings, so after I've found what I'm looking for, I always look in two more places.

'It's the least I can do'.

Hardly much of an offer then!

Or of salesmen, halfway through a pitch: 'To be honest...' - you mean you haven't been honest up 'til now?

I hate that one so much that I now look in a couple of other places AFTER I've found the lost item...

I could care less.

Pointless because it's WRONG.

"I'm not a racist but..."
"With the greatest/all due respect..."
"Trust me..."
"You're not going to believe this but..."

I also randomly hate like, the random like misuse of like the words "like" and "random".
And people who exclaim "So" in an american style...

"It's like, so random!"

Twats the lot of 'em.

"I borrowed him xxxxxx"

"That'll learn them"

Not really nonsense phrases as such, just people who can't learn the basics of sentence structure - very annoying.

Just saw one...

"A friend of mine..."

Pretty obvious if you dropped the "of mine".

"Cheap at half the price!"

Well, yes, because at half the price it'll be 50% cheaper than it is now?

Isnt it supposed to be "It's always in the last place that you would look"?

Meaning, it's always in the most unexpected place?

..feed a cold, starve a fever.......does that mean you should eat lots with a cold, but not much with a fever, or if you eats lots when you have a cold, then it stops you getting a fever?
I'm sure, medically, that both approaches are questionable.

"I'm not racist but...."

Generally the prelude to an epic DM-style anti asylum rant which would make Manning himself blush. smile
