Is it me or have there been lots of air crashes this year?

As news breaks of the Plane crash in Holland I can't help thinking that there have been lots air crashes already this year and we're only 2 months in.

Two in New York, Mid Air collision over Wales, Helicopter in the sea last week, Passenger Plane in Brazil, Turkish airlines today and I'm sure there have been others I've forgotten.

I can't find a comprehensive list of all events, does anyone know of a source.

Has this year been any worse than usual and if yes what could be the reason for it?

Have the economic slowdown and fuel price issues caused more corners to be cut?

Thought please.

Corners haven't been cut in any proper airlines, you just can't do that.

There does seem to have been a few more crashes than usual this year.

The missus said that very same thing today. I put it down to slow news year so more of them make the news.

Buffallo Icing (probably) rare but happens, NYC Multiple bird strike (very rare) Madrid may be maintenance related, this latest is possibly a running out of fuel issue so perhaps some cost shaving is creeping in but until proper results are published it's probably statistically insignificant.

No-one has the foggiest why this aircraft crashed today. Fuel is but one of many possible explanations. Just because it didn't burn, doesn't mean there wasn't any fuel left.

Was saying that to the (Air Stewardess) OH this morning. She's not worried. Yet.

Someytimes you get these "clusters" of accidents. It is just a statistical fluke. What will happen is that the media will report every minor incident for the next few weeks - making it seem that airliners are crashing and falling apart all over the place.

Put up a speed camera and record the statistics next year... That's what the SCP's do and then claim they will claim the 'improvement' is down to the camera.

Just a statistical blip IMO

And unfortunately the biggies have a connection - Star Alliance. SpanAir, Turkish, US Airways are all Star Alliance, and Continental are about to join.

It's a conspiracy!

There have been some odd coincidences recently.

The plane crashes are all down to climate change, obviously.

No No it is definitely Gordon Brown's fault without a doubt.
