Look Lads this may be unpopular on hers (is there any positive postings on here?) but I think as a public service we should keep this last bastion of what made it Britain Great in our ownership!

As a confirmed Ebayer, I have to say I have had excellent service for Her Majesties mail service!

DON'T tell me the other couriers are better THEY ARE NOT! 15 miles drive after 2 hour RINGING them with house phone AND two mobiles to try and get through, after leaving note sayin I was not in when I saw the fekker run up the drive and run off again! Tossers!

So although controversial, I think the Royal Mail should be allowed to put the price of a 1st Class stamp up to 50 pence so they can invest as they need too.

KEEP 2ND CLASS AT 20 PENCE FOR THE OLD LADIES, PENSIONERS and tight-wads ETC!

If I remember to get my sister a Birthday card, its normally about £2!
So 50p to post it is not a lot in comparison!

If I was a tight-git, I could still make a card out of recycled bin liners or something, and post it 2nd class for 20p.

Look at what happened to other public services like gas and electric.
Prices rocketed, service dropped!

SO AT THE RISK OF BEING LAMBASTED, I THINK WE SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING ON THIS ONE!

I'm not sure about the wrongs and rights of this but could it be worse time be shaking up a company like this?. If I were the government I'd leave well alone in the short term until the rest of the economy had started to sort itself out, rather than giving it another kick in the nuts.

I would be tempted to keep it the way it is - however it is being reported that the unions are standing in the way of more modern working practises stimulating the question of private ownership.

You mean "modern working practises" like sneaking up to your letterbox and pushing a card saying "we called while you were out" through the door rather than actually ringing the doorbell?
