Reading through the searches there seems that a few people have been and just wanted some opinions on 2 hotels we have narrowed it down if possible.
The two we are thinking of are :
http://sharmelsheikh.regency.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotel...
or
http://www.hiltonworldresorts.com/Resorts/SharksBa...
The first is a little more money (and we are on a budget) however people say that the Hilton is good value?
Anyone been?

thanks there is a brand new section which i've been told are the ones to book.
Is it right on the beech?
It is but its not much of a beach. Peebley and shale rather than sand and only a small cove. Diving is good there though - the hotel has its own pontoon to get you over the reef bit near to shore so you can snorkal or diveIs it right on the beech?
I don't know how new the new section is? they buidling an extension to it when we were there lol!

I went to sharm in jan, and it was a great place.
The two you mention are RIGHT in the middle of sharm and from memory both are on each side of the road (which is a mare to cross).
We stayed about 5 miles up the road in the Regency (i think- i will check when less squiffy)
The two you mention were great hotels (had a beer in each) but to be honest, they were so noisy inside it would have driven me mad.
We had a private beach, water sports (the non german variety!) 6 resteraunts on site, a reasonable bar, and great food.
Right on the beach, friendly staff and so on.
Had a great time, PM me if you want photos.
Clearest water i have ever seen.
Loved it.

I stayed at the Hyatt a few years ago. We paid extra for some collonial style club thing which included a better room and access to a seperate pool and club house. Would recommend it over the standard room. Overall the hotel was good but I suppose it depends on your expectations. The two we are thinking of are :

The hotel is 5 mins up the coast from Sharm which struck me as a s
t hole - think cheap spanish resort. In fact, the whole of t'Eygpt is a dump. The hotel itself is set apart from the resort though, and much nicer. The main pool area looked great for kids. Also, it's on the beach and the snorkeling was amazing.
Dubai is easily worth the extra money but if you don't want the extra travel time then the Hyatt is one of the nicest places to stay in the area.

We were in a standard room, which was lovely. The Regency Hyatt is the one their President uses, so that says it all really

The food was great. There are waiters that come round the pool area to collect your drinks orders, we tipped ours (about £5 in total) on the first day, the next morning, he'd put towels on the sun loungers where we had been to reserve them for us
but then he did come to the side of the pool when we got out holding the towels for us.Disagree with Sharm itself being a dump! I throughly enjoyed the nights we bothered to venture out of the hotel into the town (there is a bus service). The locals were friendly and courteous, we weren't pestered to buy stuff, or to look, but when we did they were eager to barter (insulted if you didn't). They are keen to practice their English as well.
Just remember it is a Muslin country, and so your wife/girlfriend WILL get comments and 'nasty looks' if she sunbathes topless (I had mine untied when I was on lying on my front to avoid strap marks, and 'covering' me without the straps in place when lying on my back - on fully when in the pool - one woman didn't and was spat at!), or goes out showing a lot of flesh. They respect that it is not our custom to go out covered from head to toe, but will respect you more if you cover up slightly (eg just a shawl/scarf over shoulders will suffice).
I didn't bother with the day trip to Cairo, as you need longer than a day to explore it IMHO. And with the recent tourist bombing, I think I'd stay clear for a while.
Have stayed in the Maxim Plaza Gardens (crap, and called something else now), the Four Seasons (expensive for what it is, nice though) and the Iberotel Lido (quite small, in very busy part of Naama Bay, but well-priced and very, very nice). It's fair to say that hotel quality goes from utter tripe to pretty good, and that price is not always an indication of the quality you will see and feel.
Our family has a house in Sharm now, but there are plenty of decent and well-priced hotels out there.
Oh, and I should point out (not for the first time here on PH) that in eight years of visiting Egypt, I have never had food poisoning of any sort.
