HMRC and "that" mistake on Self Assessment on-line
Discussion
So, I selected the option on my on-line self assessment form to have my £200 taken via an adjustment to my tax code.
HMRC have since indicated that this option should not have been there after 31 December 2008.
Got a letter dated 16 February indicating that I owe £203 and I missed the deadline for payment, and would be charged interest on any outstanding amount and that this was a FINAL DEMAND for the money to be paid.
I always leave these type of things a few days, and was then going to contact them and query it.
Lo and behold, got another letter dated 19th February where they admitted to their cock up, and said "due to the circumstances we will adjust your tax code as you requested".
I wonder how many people stumped up when they got the first letter, which was probably auto generated without checking anything..
