I'm flying London-Zurich-Nuremberg tomorrow. Does anyone know if I can pick duty-free up in either London or Zurich during this trip?

Sadly only in Zurich for 40mins, so might be quite tight if that's my only option!

I'd imagine so, but suggest you post this question in flyertalk.com for reliable confirmation.

Flying from the UK to a EU country or from a EU country to the UK means you are not allowed any duty free ciggys or booze but i am not sure about anything else like aftershave etc.

If they offer you duty free on the flight to zurich yer pretty sorted I would think for when you get there.
If they don't probably not. I can't imaging an airline passing up the chance to sell you something if they could.

Goods purchased in an European Union Member state, the duty/taxes are paid in the member state that the goods are purchased in. Whilst there are quantity guidelines, those are only as a “point of evidence”, in practice if the goods are for personal use then there is no limits on quantity you can buy and import into the UK. Although personally myself I would keep to the guidelines of the member state you are importing the goods into, which the UK have the highest guidelines of any member states, i.e. 3200 for cigarettes, as Germany, France, Spain are 800 for cigarettes.

For non EU countries then there limits on quantise that can be imported into any European Union Member states, the UK being of course included, for cigarettes the limit is 200 for cigarettes.

So if I were making your journey I would either buy my full EU guidelines in either London or Nuremberg, and then perhaps the “limits” of a non EU member state in Zurich. In any transactions both London, Zurich and/or Nuremberg keep your receipts should any Customs officers require proof of those purchases.

Look out for leaflets at airports offering information on the above.

Interesting post for me, I have just come back today from a week in the costa del sol. Whilst I was there I visited Gibraltar twice, Benson & Hedges are £11 for 200. so officially I believe I would be entitled to bring 200 back into the EU. But because I went there twice on different days it means I could bring in another 200. Although I don't know how that would work within the UK law if I went through UK customs with 400 B&H at duty free prices.

Arriving back into the UK on a Spanish flight, your case would be scanned by Customs. The possibility is that Customs would not stop you, but should they decide to, and found the 400 non EU purchased cigarettes they would possibly seize the 400, that is if you were just travelling by yourself, if however you had a partner with you, then 2 x 200 (limits) then you would be allowed to keep them.

They never seized mine. They just told me what I had to pay to keep them.

I told them it is best they kept them, was something daft they wanted.
