hey guys, I have a small problem. Basically a certain telecommunications company has made abit of a screw-up and been billing to the wrong address so i have racked up a small bill without realising, they obviously want me to pay it but should i be paying it? or are they in the wrong? I just ask because i would be willing to pay but all of my flatmate's are refusing to pay (the account is in my name).

Thanks guys

p.s i know i have been an idiot before anyone says it!

You're liable as its in your name, they're liable if they said they'd pay their share.

If they're thinking there is some sort of legal loophole available, they're mistaken.

You've recieved benefit from a phone line so it follows you must pay the operator for it.

Collect the money, pay it.

You used the service so you have to pay for it.

Yep, you used the service. The fact that they or you cocked up the billing address doesn't change that.

Tell your flatmates they're idiots and demand they put in towards the bill. Or set the house on fire when they're sleeping if they don't.

On a more serious note, if you can't afford to pay up front most companies will arrange a payment plan whereby you pay what you can afford over x period of time.
