Upgrading my train ticket
Discussion
Hi
I am a total novice when it comes to traveling on trains
In the morning I am going from York to London at 8:30 ish
I bought my poverty spec ticket ages ago online for 20 quid
At the time I could have bought a 1st class ticket for 80 quid one way and decided not to
So if I wish I have a feeling I can upgrade in the morning
Do I do this actually on the train or do I rock up to the ticket office and go from there?
More to the point is there any way of telling how much it will cost in advance?
I dont really care where I sit for a few hours and read an old TG magazine but having never travelled first class on anything I fancy giving it a go
This assumes its worth the effort - I dont actually know what the benefits are of 1st class on a train besides free tea and coffee
Opinions welcome
Dave
I took a train from Thirsk to London (KK) and bought the cattle class ticket (£90 cheaper than 1st). Was travelling with a dog and C.C. was rammed, so decided to try the uprade thingy. It ended up being £25 a ticket and we basically had the run of the carriage.
Always worth giving it a go.
If I were you, get on the train, sit in 1st. Then when they ask for your ticket, say you would like to upgrade. If its too much, or not reasonable, f
k off with the rest of the great unwashed!!
I also used to train about twice a week, and would book so far in advance it was an extra £1.50 for a first class ticket - well worth it!!
