I see that the Tories are 4/9 for an overall majority come the next general election.

I consider myself a fair judge so this has to be the best 'racing certainty' in my lifetime ~ worth a quick 9k to win 4k ?

I reckon we could see a hung parliament.

With any luck ...

It's either my age or the current state of British politics but I can't be arsed to care any more.

I agree. Cameron is just Blair with a different name. All very depressing.

Difficult to argue but I can't imagine anyone with an IQ greater than single digits (and I appreciate that for the UK these days that still leaves a large proportion of the population) could even contemplate voting for the current lot of losers, probably the least successful UK Government of all time.............

True. But what exactly are you voting for... more of the same is my fear.

Its the only hope the UK has. Cameron is not more of the same. He's calling out the issues of the country and understanding the problem is the start. Under the Tories it would be different as they are different people.

I suspect you have an allegiance to somebody else -Lib Dems?

yes

Sadly the mass of idiots may be critical.

A hung parliament is the last thing we need right now. A talking shop during a crisis is truly scary!

Lets face it, the next election is there for the Conservatives to lose, not really win. Simply turning up and not cocking around would be sufficient to win with a fair majority. So if they can just keep the willies in their trousers, dodgy dealing out of the press, and for the limited few to keep their mouths shut - they are guaranteed a win.

How dare you! hehe

I had a discussion with a seior Tory MP a couple of weeks ago. I asked him if he felt at ease with the fact that his party was heading for government by default rather than because they had the best policies and were the party of choice. He said it is a continuous internal debate and the 'let's win by doing nothing' voices were winning. He agreed that to win the election in this manner effectively gives the Tories no real mandate to achieve anything.

I have not heard anything from the Conservatives to suggest that they have key policies in place, ready for a manifesto to be wrapped round them. I see a career politician trying, like Blair, to appeal to everyone and he'll achieve nothing by doing so.

Where are the promises of 'small government', minimised taxation, freedom to conduct business, clamping down on 'Big Brother' in public services and an end to the idiocy of anti-capitalist phoney-science?

I'd love to vote Conservative because they are the party I want to run the country. But I tore up my membership card in the mid-90s and don't see myself signing back up again anytime soon.

the one thing we must all learn from this debacle is never let Labour win more than 2 terms in a row...this is the first time in history that they have got in for a third term and look what has happened, it usually only takes 2 terms for Labour to completely screw the country but due to the strength of the economy when they came to power it has just taken a little longer which has therefore made it far worse...

having said this I am not a huge fan of Cameron, but the current government is so awful, there is not one redeeming character in the whole bunch, that I want Cameron to win, at least he has people like Hague and Redwood behind him

He said 9/4 ON, which is 4/9

You can get almost 8/15 on Betfair. Seems a good price to me.

I'm hoping for a hung parliament. The idea of a large Tory majority terrifies me only slightly less than the idea of another term of Labour.

You think? I am struggling to think of anyone who could actually be any worse that this current bunch. I mean, the joke about the asylum and the inmates is unfortunately coming true in our case and I fail to see who / what is going to change this - unless we elect a different bunch who have a mandate for change (to steal something from Obama).

They might scare you, but think of another 4 years of this current lot - which is more frightening?

What? You really want a stangnant, powerless parliament that is completely unable to dispense the medicine required to dig this country out of the pile of poo that Labour have dumped us in?

I just pray you aren't representative of the majority otherwise we're truly, permanently sh@gged. For all time, and that's only if we're not already, I have a really bad feeling that there is far more to come out of the woodwork yet.

Read that again and think:

1. how badly have Labour done?
2. what do I really know about the tories?
3. Is what I'm saying subjective?

Which is what I said, isn't it?
