Joking aside Richard, if your ECU lives in the usual place down the side of the battery box, might be worth unplugging and drying/storing separately until the carpets shrink (I mean dry out)

Thanks for the advice Gary, ECU is in that area but well above the floor and not in contact with any carpets. The drying out process began as soon as I got home, much to the amusement of my wife
