Yep, I met a chap from Scunthorpe who modified the Elise luggage rack with a few upright supports to hold his racing bike with the front wheel removed on the passenger side and the front wheel on the driver side. It was very ingenious and very sturdy.
But it looked silly.
I won't bother making any comments about appropriate use of your car.

Hello,
Not a silly question at all!
I was wondering the same thing myself.
I'm sure Chris Boardman owned an Elise when he rode the Lotus. I have a feeling Lotus designed him a special rack so might be worth talking to them?
My worries have always been with the strength of the GRP. I reckon my road bike would just about fit in the passenger seat with wheels and seat removed?
Would be very interested to hear if you make any interesting dicoveries.
