Elise as a company car
Discussion
Has anyone got an Elise as a company car? Although the list price makes it quite expensive, as a 1.8 engine it is in quite a cheap bracket compared to most sports/prestige cars. The CO2 emmissons are good too.
I was a a bit worried the tax man would object, especially as it will only be a summer months mode of transport.

I used to have it...then transferred it to PCP with full maintainance when I left my old company so I could keep the car.
I know 3 or 4 people who had them as company cars - very good...nearly lowest tax bracket. If youre gonna get a new one then the S2111S is the one to go for - not the Toyota - its in a much higher bracket.
Best benefit is ragging around a track/airfield and not having to worry about paying for the tyres or servicing

Yes, I've got one (a base Mk 2 Elise). I've had the car for the last 18 months. I was doing 12k p.a. but a girlfriend in Paris means that I've only done 8k in the last 12 months. Fine as a company car, but my car scheme is more of a perk as I only use the car for work about once a month.
You feel a lot better parking a company Elise than your own - and feel a lot less stressed when a milk float reverses over the front of your Elise meaning a new front clam
.
No regrets about choosing an Elise.

Bloody excellent!!!
Had my S2 since December; over 13k miles so far. Drive it every day all yaer and don't keep it in the garage.
You don't have to worry about the cost of servicing, tyres or insurance; and most importantly for me you don't have to worry about depreciation. Trying to guess whether a car is going to be worth what you still owe on the finance when you come to change it has always seemed a bit risky when you are doing about 17k a year.

I understand that if the vehicle isn't available (for example only for summer use) you don't pay company car tax for the whole year as it wasn't available. The list price thing is a bit of a bummer but at 1800cc and fairly low emissions I think it makes a geat 'second' company car, especially as the tax man will write off thousands against the company profits and that nasty insurance and servicing bill goes away. I can't think of a better way to enjoy an elise than with the boss and the tax man paying!
Not sure what the definition of not being available is; I think that if it is at your house it is considered to be available.
Personally I don't think it is worth having a company car unless you do above average mileage; it is cheaper to buy one and finance it. Also, if you aren't paying for the servicing, insurance and depreciation then there is no reason not to use it all year round. There are plenty of people on this forum who do so, and would advocate it. When the winter blues set in and you have to drive in ever depressing weather conditions, why not spice it up by doing it in a fun car?!!!

I have a foot in both camps in that it is my small company, so the money spent on servicing is mine indirectly ( I could take it out as profits or wages). I take your point on the 'available' thing, but there must be ways around that.......mustn't there? I won't be insuring it for road use during the winter, if I can find a company who will do that.

Just get limited miles surely - if you know roughly what you're going to do that's probably the easiest way. Then it's covered for TPFT also while it's chewing on the battery and flat-spotting your tyres
