rattling noise/starting problems

as per the subject matter have an annoying rattling noise that occurs when excelerating and when the engines is going back down through the revs.

this happens in every gear and the noise is definatelty comming from behind my head.

Also still having starting problems even after putting in a new battery, could it be plugs and leads that need doing next failing that possibly alternator. When turning key it takes at least 2 secs to start.

Car is an elise 160 sport W reg.

Any ideas/ your views please.

On this one, it sounds like your fuel vapour charcoal cannister... a quick search in the forums found this from FergusD from LotusEcosse...

The purge valve is only operated after startup with an open throttle within a time limit, that's why it only makes the noise under the circumstances you mention . . . assuming it's the same noise. It's using inlet manifold vacuum to clean out the fuel vapour charcoal trap. ...IIRC that's a classic with the 160. TADTS?
