Probably a very open ended question but how safe is a 111R without "hardtop" parked in a driveway ?
Just wondering whether to build a garage first. The roof doesnt look the most secure in the world. I guess it the same as the S1 and S2 models ?
Anyone had a problem at all with breakin attempts with a "softop" roof ?
Cheers

Its a plastic car. If someone wants in they'll get in hard top or no. Don't often hear of these cars getting broken in to although sometimes soft tops do get slashed. Depends where you park and what the people going by are like I guess. Most of us don't have any probs though.
(edited due to attrocious word substitution. I do that a lot on forums lol)

To some extent you can eliminate the opertunist by simply removing eveything inside the car ie phone chargers, CD's, stereo facias - if they can't see anything then they probably wouldn't bother breaking in.
If a criminal wants your car then they can equally as easy get round garage door locks to get to it to nick it.
Having a garage is never a bad idea though as it should hopefully be dry in there

Soft top - approx £150 to replace, your time to refit
Window - approx £150 to replace, plus several hours labour to refit, set up etc.
If some lightfingered scrote wants to get into your car a hardtop ain't gonna stop 'em (it could be levered off from the back I guess with enough force).
By and large there's nothing worth nicking in a liz, so if you have a mask/removable headunit you should be ok (touch wood, where's a black cat, where's my heather etc.).

thanks....puts my mind at ease a little.
£150 is not to bad to refit a soft top if required.

To be honest mate that's a guesstimate, but to be fair it'll cost you less than the cost of a hardtop if you were very very unlucky and had some idiot try to slash through it.
Go on, get yer 111R... you know it makes sense

dont worry about security
my car was parked in the open for 2 years
although the roof is not very secure, no one is going to break in unless you leave valuables inside or the radio there
i also always leave my car unlocked cos i dont have central locking and its easier.
they way i see it, is that although someone can open the door why would they. the immobiliser protects it and the alarm.
the elsie isnt really a joyriders car anyway

Mine is garaged, but it is my everyday car, 28.5K in 2 years. I've driven Elises (as everyday cars) for the last 5 years and I have not had a single problem. They are very rarely stolen, and they don't attract the jealously type of damage like a Porsche might. In terms of thefts from vehicles (and I speak from 9 years Polcing experience) the old adage, "out of sight, out of mind" is very true. If your car isn't garaged do not leave anything of value in the car. It doesn't matter whether it's a Mini or a Maybach it doesn't take much to smash a window and grab anything left in a car.
