Hi All.

I currently own an Esprit but am thinking of swapping this for an Elise. Can anybody recommend a dealer / specialist within, say, 40 miles of Milton Keynes that has a good number on view that I can compare. I know nothing about the Elise and get confused when I try to research the derivatives. I am looking at spending less than £12k.

FYI, I would rather not visit Orchard (Northampton) as they have been extremely unhelpful in the past as far as the Esprit has been concerned.

Many thanks in advance.

Jason.

Not too familiar with that part of the world but for that kind of money I would use the dealers to test few out and find what you want then buy private as 12k still won't get very much on a forecourt.

There's a lot of stuff about the various models of Elise in some of the threads on here which should help you

Edit>>> There's a nice list here www.elises.co.uk/models/index.html

I love absolutely everything about it - acceleration, handling and comfort. I don't think at the moment I would swap it for much else except an S4s - I really like it that much

Definately go private for that sort of money. There are over 100 in the ads on here so you should be able to find a nice one that suits

Jason I fear you may be a bit to short to drive an elise without a booster cusion and some blocks of wood tied to your feet...

Thank you very much for the links. I'll take a look at the end of the working day!!! and seee what I can find. I thought when I was looking through AutoTrader that private was probably the way to go.

Ha ha ha, I just looked at that myself. The Esprit is a magnificent machine, and if I could, I would have one of each. My thinking is that the Esprit is a very delicate machine and that the Elise can be thrown around without much care. For example the gearbox in the Esprit is a weak point and I am forever worried about over doing it. If they were easily available, it wouldn't really matter - but they're a bit like hen's teeth. Therefore, I want to remain in the Lotus family but have something that will be just that little bit more forgiving. I will really miss the overtaking power of the incredible turbocharged engine though. That's really why I want to learn what the different models are so I can get the most powerful one I can afford.

I must be honest though and say that my wants and wishes change as often as the weather. Only yesterday I saw a magnificent SL500 for sale with a great styling pack for similar money - and then this morning having a beautiful dark blue Elise behind me changed my mind again. With an Elise I will be able to hang out with all my current Esprit friends which wouldn't be quite the same in an SL500 - plus I'd probably crash on the 1st bend keeping up with an Esprit at full chat!

Many thanks to you all again.

also Castle Lotus at Stansted - I would go with them or Wilsons at Chadwell Heath - both great service and good deals

If you are ever near Slough (then you have my deepest sympathy ) - go into SGT. They always have at least a dozen Elise's in stock. Also got a nice 340R (W Reg, 190BHP conversion and 9K dry miles) at a very reasonable £19995 if you fancy something extreme.

Check out MLOC.net - the Midlands Lotus Owners Club.

Well over 500 members, with lots of help & advice. Pre-dominantly Elise (& derivative) owners, although it was never intended that way. Come along to one of the meets or just introduce yourself online and we'll help sort you out with a car!

For £12K budget, don't even think of going trade. At that price all the cars will be 5 years old so few if any of the official Lotus dealers will want those cars on their books. Other dealers will be non-specialist so may not know how to prepare a specialised car such as a Lotus, so why buy trade? Also, the profit they expect to make (plus, in fairness, the money they spend in preparing the cars) will load the cars by £1-2K relative to private.

It's extremely rare that we have an Elise that we are happy to put our name to at under £12k - but we've got one coming soon. We are based near Guildford.

Hi All. Sorry for my slackless in replying - I think we've possibly all had the same difficulties in getting onto PH.

Graeme - I think you may be the chap that took me out on the Leicestershire run when my Esprit buddies had a crash on the way up??? I may well pop along to a meet and have more of a serious chat - as I was all Esprit'ed up way back then.

Apprentice - thank you for posting. I will try to make it down to your showroom this weekend. Guildford.....I'll look on a map. Near Staines I'm thinking. Anyway, thanks for your response. Perhaps you would be kind enough to keep me informed - access my e-mail from my profile page.

Really appreciated.

Jason.

If you are coming down to the Guildford area here are a few other places to look at

Bell and Colville - Oldest Lotus Main Dealer www.bell-colvill.co.uk/ Just north of Guidlford

Merrits of Amersham - New Lotus Dealer

Prices are going to be high but B&C should have a large stock for you to have a look around
