Hi All,

I'm about to buy my first Elise. Something I'm not loosing too much sleep over but is present in my mind is the HGF issue. I have a few questions about this:

1) If a car has suffered HGF, is it more or less likeley to suffer it again in the future? (Obviously supposing the owner caught it in time and was fixed by someone who knew what they were doing etc etc...)

2) Is the VVC motor more or less likeley than the standard 118 BHP 'K' to suffer HGF all other things being equal?

3) Should an Elise suffer HGF, approx what would the repair tab run to at a main dealer provided there was no head damage? Is it a clam-off job, or DIY-able to someone who's pretty competent?

4) Am I worrying about nothing?

Cheers folks,

Phil.

1) assuming it was done right and there were no other issues, then no, that said, there are some that just seem to be prone to it.

2) they seem to be less, but that could just be down to numbers...

3) Assuming it's justy HGF, then it's a easy enough job, aim for ~£500 all in.

4) no, it's a realistic problem for the K engine, that said, how they are driven does have an effect on the HG, rev it when it's cold, and it will not help it's case

Hi PJLarge,

Did you get the colour you were after? When do you pick it up? Is is a 111s or standard???

Should see you buzzing around soon

Rudeboy,

Not actually bought one yet, I'm just trawling the ads and dealers trying to find something suitable. So far, I've seen a few rough ones, but still not driven any. Trouble is, I'm picky and want a minter, a specific colour and I have a preferred spec. However, this morning one has come up that looks like it could be 'the one' It's a shame it's not a 111S, but it has the 111 seats has a hardtop and has done less than 15k miles. It's Calypso and looks like new. I'll start a new thread with my questions about it though...

Cheers

Phil.
