Toyota Engine Power Gains???
Discussion
What are the best ways to get more out of the Toyota lump??
I gather you can:
1. remap the ecu (but who can do this ? and how much)
2. change the airfilter (what brands/cost/suppliers??)
3. supercharge the engine....what are the costs and who can do it ?
Any other ways of getting more power or increasing the power band??
cheers

I've not yet seen any official or unofficial upgrade products for the 'Yota engines. There are rumours of a factory supercharger coming next year, though. For now, all you can really get is the sports exhaust, which doesn't actually add any power, but looks & sounds nice.
I've not looked into filters & remappings, but my gut feeling would be to leave well alone until the engine and it's installation are a bit better known. Chances are alot of ancillaries like the airbox will be different to the Celica application anyways, so things like K&Ns might not be a straight swap.
In terms of remapping the ECU I think this is a Lotus rather than Toyota part, although I could be wrong. If that is the case, it might be a problem getting hold of the appropriate software. In any event, I head that Toyota were very interested in what Lotus did with the engine to liberate extra power over the Celica application, so that suggests to me that the motor is pretty much optimised as-is.

I definitely seem to recall reading that somewhere. IIRC, there was a modest power gain (a few bhp)and Lotus also programmed the VVTLi to fire at a different point in the rev range.
Really straining my memory I think it was attributed in part to the changes made to the intake/exhaust to fit in the Elist and also the remapping by Lotus.

Thought I wasn't imaginging things. Check out this link - look in the "Lotus Tuning" paragraph.

I want to consider power gains for mine. I understand a few people have tried the remap route with not necassarily good results. I've heard the MIL light will come on even if you change the air filters.
I'm waiting to see what Lotus come up with next year.

Lets hope the rumoured supercharger comes to fruition as a retrofit upgrade for 111r/Exige2. [k]

Well according to the PH story the other day where they talked to the Bods from Lotus there won't be an official upgrade available as Lotus Motorsport doesn't have time for the project.
