I must be mad, I have sold my Caterham and put a deposit down on a S2 Elise today.

I have looked through previous threads about insuring Elises but there seems to be a big lack of phone numbers.

The car will be a second car with limited milage, I would also expect to do a few track days so I would prefer a specialist who would take this into consideration.

Any help greatfully accepted.

Try Cheam Insurance, 020 8770 1001.

They insured me on the original Elise S1 135 Sport, when everyone else said 'what's that' along with a ridiculous quote, also insured me on v8GT Esprit. They do policies that cover track days as long as you inform them prior to the event.

Only downside is they can be a little lax with getting back to you when you leave messages, etc. Mostly as they always seem to be mad busy.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Ash I will try them next.

So far I have had quotes from £900 to £2225 for a S2 Elise.

Compare this to the quote I got for a same age 200bhp Caterham of £335 it looks like I might try and get my deposit back.

These guys were pretty competitive when I was looking.

Tesco were also quite good.

Try AON Automotive - they have a scheme rec. by Lotus Life owner's club called Esteem.

My recent quote was £543 - this includes various insurance taxes, admin charges and accident management service charge.

Some others had quoted up to £2000!!

I'm 37 with a S2 Elise, garaged, tracker and fortunatley no convictions or claims.

Tel:01483 706070

Worth a try for the cost of a call.

Only drawback is they are a bit slow on the admin front and need to be chased up re:cover notes etc.

Do offer track day cover but you need to prove you have been on a Lotus track day course or similar.

I'm with Footman James on a limited mileage future classic policy - 0121 561 4196, they also throw in some sort of european breakdown cover for free too.

More help needed what a nightmare.

Tesco want 2 yrs min no claims but that is on my everyday car.

AON were too busy at 3pm and suggested I call them back tomorrow.

Try Cheam said they would call back two hours ago.

Best yet Footman James quoted £2340 as their future classic have to be over 5yrs old.

Picking up my car this evening and just phoned Adrian Flux to put the insurance on. They had been the best quote at £846 only to find that the policy was non transferable or redeemable should I sell or swap cars.

I thought I would have one more shop round and tried to speak to Cheam again, this time I got through and bloody glad I did.

Paid £669, fully comp, 6000 miles, no no claims, 3 pts, 60 day euro cover and business use, only £250 excess, fully redeemable pro-rater of use and transferable.

Very happy and thanks to Ash for the recommendation and Mark at Cheam Insurance (0208 770 1001)

Hmmm shame - I've been with Flux for the last few years on my modded Mini's and they've consistently beaten everyone else. They also let me carry over to the 'liz when I bought it.

Due for a renewal next month so will be interested to see the numbers now I'm 28, 4yrs NCB, no points and a nice postcode. Will give Cheam and the others here a call too.

Purplecat,

Glad Cheam turned in a good quote for you. Though I'm licenceless and 'lotusless' until Nov 1st (had to give up my licence for the 2nd time due to epileptic seizure last year) - Cheam have always been great, so will be going back to them, maybe I can get a discount as a commission - good luck with the S2, think i'm just about to commit to an Exige S2 - but may have to hold out for the supercharged version.
