First track day in the Lotus and after a couple of hours building up speed and heat, a loud clunking / knocking noise has started coming from left rear wheel / suspension area. This happens when under load, i.e. cornering (turning right) and acceleration combined.

Visually everything looks ok but there’s only so much one can see on these cars. Wheel bolts are torqued correctly. No noise when I push down on the left rear when parked. I’m running NS2-R tyres and upgraded pads.

Any ideas what this might be? Do toelinks give this type of warning before failing?

One of my toe links started making quite a loud rattling noise when warm before I replaced it. It wasn’t easy to diagnose and I could have sworn it was the exhaust or maybe even the clam rattling. In the end I sprayed some lubricant around the ends of each joint under the dust cover and it temporarily stopped the noise so I knew it was the link. Inboard end on driver side for me. Though I ended up doing a full suspension refresh and ohlins upgrade at the same time. Oops.

Toe links as above are very common so worth checking out, especially if you track it.

Bounce the rear clam up and down when warm see if it still does it then. Inner toe link joints are a consumable on exiges they are a quite poor quality rose joint setup. The one next to the exhaust u bend is always the first to go.

If you Jack the car up you might also have play 9-3
