Numberplate off

I've just caught the front numberplate on my Elise on a particually evil speed bump - although no cracks / damage to the plate or bumper, the plate fell off and te 2 holes it screws into are damaged - it screwed back in, but does not feel secure

Any advice on how to fix it, or should I just ask the dealer when it has it's 1000 mile service next week?

BTW - I never knew a car could be so much fun below 4500 revs!!

Either stick it in the boot and dont bother with one, or get a 20% smaller one with motobike sized letters from say www.bell-colvill.co.uk and stick it on with double sided no plate pads from Halfords (thats what Ive done on mine)

Or mount it using double sided velcro or tap or something similar, and use it as an early warning system.

Its better to realise there is a problem when you loose the plate than to take chunks out of the front clam...

I had the same problem with my plate ! I changed it for a plate-sticker... That was nice until the police stopped me because it was not a genuine plate. I fixed the problem with the holes by using a sort of rivet that is used to make a hole in a Gyproc wall. Its a plastic part that clipses behind the wall, so you a have a firm base to screw your plate on. If you place some rubber washers behind teh plate, the plate has some flexing and prevents it from ripping it out again

The best option is to Get a smaller one! if you remove the plate there may be legal implications another idea which would look horrendus would be to mount the plate on the bonnet ie.Above the badge or just try and mount the plate a few mms higher.

just don't bother.. mine broke off also, so I have my new one safe in the boot

Just broke mine and replaced too. Can recommend heavy-duty velcro pads. You don't have the hassle of drilling, and get the chance to reposition to your heart's content. Just make sure the two halves have time to bond properly to their surfaces before attaching/removing.

My wife squished a rabbit with mine, took it back to SGT Taplow, (the car that is), they fixed it and put a new plate on free of charge, regards

the thick wide velcro from halfords is good. if you need a new plastic mounting plate they are > £100 so i'd not let the garage order one without asking you first...
