Hi everyone

You will have noticed that I have posted all at once (like a bus I am), but I have been extremely busy, or on holiday.

Anyway, I wanted to give some feedback on the evening sessions that Goldtrack have run at Silverstone recently. I will break each one down to make it easier to read:

27/07/05 - Peugeot S16 - National circuit

I wanted to try this car, as I am looking to race in Stock Hatch next year, so this is the type of car on the grid.

As mentioned by Adrian, it was absolutely soaking which made it very interesting. I found that the car slid around quite easy at Luffield on the tight bends, but it was great fun! Not much horsepower, but I would highly recommend this car, as it allows you to learn the track at a sensible pace. I will definitely book it again soon.

04/08/05 - Lotus Exige - National circuit

The Radical was 'poorly' so I opted for this. What a fantastic car! Very stable and quick, with very accurate steering. I had an Elise, but this is even better. Great for track work. Added bonus - it didn't rain...hoorah! I wasn't the quickest, but I was able to increase my lap times considerably.

15/08/05 - Radical SR3 - GP circuit

What can I say about this car? AWESOME, with a capital AWE!! I have driven one around Donington before (on limited revs) but it was raining and I didn't really appreciate the performance.

On Monday it was dry and sunny. Stephen gave me a few demonstration laps. Unbelievable. Cornering on rails doesn't even come close. Took just about everything on track, and there were some extremely quick cars and drivers, as there is on Goldtrack days.

Unfortunately, I got a bit cocky on my second session and was sliding around Club, but opted for the grass to avoid a spin. Big mistake, as it took the front splitter off (sorry, Stephen!). Ironically, the splitter was causing the front to vibrate and Stephen was contemplating taking it off before the session.

It was tremendous fun, the best time I've had on a trackday. Superb! If you only do one track day in your life, DO IT IN THIS CAR! I'm still buzzing now.

In summary:

Try as many evenings as possible, as you only get a little less driving time, but for a fraction of the points.

Use Goldtrack, extremely well run and a friendly bunch. BaT are almost as good.

Try a mix of the cars, they have all been great fun, all in their own way.

The only downside for me has been the amount of Caterhams on some of these evenings, as it can get a little frustrating having to back off from your lap too often, but I suppose that is the luck of the draw. I would prefer them to have their own session.

Finally, my thanks to Stephen, who has been a real star in the support of my time with the cars on these dates.

Looking forward to the next one. Can't wait. This Track-Club business is now exceeding my expectations.

Fitz

Thanks for the good post - very useful and, being a multiple car report, should help any prospective members appreciate the advantages of the club.

I agree that Stephen is a brick - puts up with me admirably!
