Lotus Elise Silverstone GP 24th August
Discussion
I was only there for the evening session and it was wet, but apparently it had been so wet during the day that the track had to close for 2+hrs .
The Lotus Elise is a nicely balanced car but was seriously short of grip in the conditions (oh for wets!). Lack of power and "grabby" brakes were a slight problem on this circuit. (This was not the regular Track-Club car which I believe is much better in both departments)
Overall a very well behaved and predictable car - thats why they are so popular as track cars, I guess. Its a good car for the less experienced, and as a foretaste to the more powerful and grippier Exige. Good value on the points, too.
Just a short moan about the circuit.
Oh, where has the mighty Silverstone gone!
Parts of it, though diluted from when I last raced there (about 10 years ago), are OK - but the Mickey Mouse bits from Club onwards are a crying shame compared to what used to be a super fast challenge which flowed....
If I hadn't known it as it was I guess I wouldn't have missed it. But Spa proves that a modern GP circuit can be great. Get over there quick before the safety brigade wreck that!
