USA & Europe Sat Nac

Hi, what is the best UK/Europe & USA Sat nav? Is it cheaper to get a sat nav with it all already on or a tom tom and usa maps on sd card?

Of all the options I've tried my Garmin has by far the most sensible routing. Garmin sell additional mapping which is downloaded to the unit.

By comparison the routing on my android and a colleague's iphone is pretty abysmal. However I've nrver used a tom-tom so can't comment on that.

I dont have an iphone, but would prefer standalone units as it means everyone can use it. Have been looking at the TomTom 950. Does anyone have any experience with it.
